What Strava × Claude actually is

In June 2026 Strava launched a Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector for subscribers. You add Strava in Claude’s connector directory (web, desktop, or Claude Code) and authorize with OAuth. Claude then reads live Strava data in the conversation.

At launch it can reach:

Activity history and fitness trends
Per-second streams (heart rate, pace)
GPS for geographic questions
Cycling power
Clubs, events, readiness, goal planning, cross-sport, and gear

Access is read-only, scoped to your account, and revocable in Strava settings. It is a Strava subscriber feature. Strava launched with Claude first.

What it cannot do, by design: create workouts, edit your calendar, or push a session to Garmin, Wahoo, or a trainer. Claude can write you a plan as text. Keeping that plan honest after a bad night’s sleep is still on you.

Analyzing the past is not deciding Tuesday

Analysis answers questions about what already happened. Coaching decides what happens next — with the fatigue you are carrying, the hours you actually have, and the event you said you care about.

Three gaps show up as soon as you try to train from Claude + Strava alone:

You always make the first move. Claude waits for a prompt. It will not rewrite Thursday when Whoop recovery drops, or after you skip the intervals because work ran long.
A chat summary is not athlete state. Each answer re-reads Strava and reasons again. There is no living periodized plan, no load model that updates when the ride files, no memory of “we already cut volume this block.”
Method can drift. One reply sounds polarized; the next sounds sweet-spot. General assistants tend to agree with you. Good coaching often does the opposite.
